Appliance Repair | The Latest Kitchen Appliances
Appliance Repair | This year, we’ve seen washing machines that wash clothes all by themselves, dryers that steam clean, refrigerators that dispense coffee and dishwashers with clear glass windows. These appliances offer a bit of uniqueness to the home — but are they really that necessary?
Some would say no, but I’m inclined to say ‘maybe’. I mean, it would be nice to grab your breakfast and coffee from the refrigerator instead of having to brew up a cup, right? It would also be pretty cool to sit in your dining room reading the paper, while peering over your shoulder at your dishwasher’s cinematic glass window, no?
These inventions are cutting-edge, and they do offer a service to the owner, but they were created to give your eyes something more edgy to look at and not to improve on functionality.
Below are a few kitchen innovations that we felt were fun to look at and practical to use.
LG’s SmartThinQ Refrigerators
Before you gag at our gratuitous use of the word ‘smart’, hear us out. Smart appliances are not just flashy and expensive, they actually offer automation as a service to make your life easier. You want your clothes washed at home in Dallas, while you’re boarding a plane to Toronto? Open the app, select the cycle, tap Start, done. That fast! Smart refrigerators are just as useful as smart washers, if not, more useful. LG decided to join the smart appliance roll-out a few years back to create a line of refrigerators that were both smart and practical. Many of their smart refrigerators have bottom freezers with French-doors up top (benefit!), built in ice-makers with filtered water dispensers and spill-proof shelves, but the coolest features are unseen. Their smart fleet comes equipped with an internet enabled, tablet-sized LCD flat screen display on the front door. This screen displays how much food you have inside, what food is about to expire, the temperature in both the refrigerator and freezer and a few smart savings options. This flat screen is interactive, so you can change the displayed settings and download apps. When you’re away, you can check in with your refrigerator via the LG SmartThinQ phone app.
Bosch Compact Washer and Dryers
I know these aren’t really “kitchen appliances”, but Bosch changed my mind. Most people have a designated laundry spot for washers and dryers in their homes, right? Wrong. Most people don’t have space for washers and dryers, so they store the washer in the kitchen and forgo dryers altogether. The problem? The selection of washers available for people with limited space, which is roughly half of us, are super small. They were designed to clean baby clothes or to lightly wash a pair of jeans or two. Which brings me to the other problem. These small washers are not capable of washing clothes very well. And let’s not even go into the compact dryers, which are nothing more than large hair dryers. This is why Bosch felt it was time for people with limited space to enjoy clean clothes without having to sacrifice space for them. Their new line of Axxis and Ascenta washers and dryers are tiny, but they pack a mighty punch (to your clothes that is). These compact laundry gems wash and dry your clothes in just half an hour. But that’s not the best feature they offer. They have a special vibration filter in the tub and drum, which allows you to stack them without worry of them falling or making too much noise. Oh, and did I mention that they’re only 24 inches tall? So, if you don’t want to stack them, you can easily store them under a cabinet or on the side of one.
Samsung Induction Ovens
Induction ovens/ranges are designed to heat up fast, cook more evenly, and give your kitchen a sleek edge. But their popularity has only just caught up with electric and gas ranges. The reason? Several people complained about one major problem induction ovens had — spills. When you spill something on an induction cooker top, it would simply burn on. It was almost impossible to remove the burned on food without removing the finish too. However, Samsung thought of a solution that they believed could convert people back to induction cooking. Introducing Boil Alert. This feature lets you know that a boil over is about to happen before it occurs. When the liquid reaches boiling point, the range begins to beep. If you don’t feel like getting up to turn the range down or to remove the pot, no problem. These ranges can be preset to adjust the temperature when your liquid begins to boil. These ranges also contain flexible surfaces to fit all size pots and pans — unlike traditional induction tops.
GE Profile Dishwasher
What kitchen appliance list would be complete without the mention of a dishwasher? We simply couldn’t end this post without mentioning one of the most innovative dishwashers in existence today — the GE Profile. One feature that stood out a lot on these models is the reversible blade washing arm. This new flexible feature ensures that every dish will be as spotless as they were when you first unwrapped them. The GE Profile dishwasher also contains silicone holding arms on the bottom rack, which grips bottles and stemmed glasses. The jet powered stream washes the inside of these glasses and bottles with little to no effort. It’s strong enough to blast away the dirt and grime, but gentle enough to keep the glasses from breaking under pressure. The headache with older dishwashers is that the shelves were not adjustable, so if you had tall glasses, you had to wash them on the bottom rack, which of course resulted in them breaking or getting blasted right out of the area. The GE Profile dishwasher has an adjustable top rack, so you can move it down a notch to fit larger mugs and glasses. It also has a modern LED display with touch functions. Lastly, there are 7 different wash cycles, with eWash being the most energy conserving of them all. It uses less than 2 gallons of water for an entire cycle. – Appliance Connection
